Overview
Building-integrated photovoltaic design, where solar tiles replace conventional roofing rather than mounting on top of it. The most demanding format in residential solar: hundreds of 72 W tiles instead of dozens of panels, multi-plane and multi-azimuth geometry, Tesla MCI mid-circuit interrupters for rapid shutdown, and Powerwall 3 integrated inverters — engineered as one system.
The problem
A Solar Roof is not a panel array with a different finish. Hundreds of individual 72 W tiles cross every plane of a complex roof, there is no racking to flash and no array to walk around, and rapid shutdown has to be solved with mid-circuit interrupters rather than module-level electronics. Get the stringing or the MCI placement wrong and the roof comes apart to fix it.
What we did
- Lay out tiles and design strings across every roof plane and azimuth, grouped to the Powerwall that will carry them.
- Place Tesla MCI mid-circuit interrupters to the PVRSS requirement and NEC 690.12.
- Integrate Powerwall 3 and Gateway 3 electrically — whole-home or partial backup, with the utility interconnection drawn.
- Detail the tile attachment and Cobalt underlayment against the actual rafter span, so the roofer and the electrician read the same set.
Delivered
- Tile layout and string design
- Powerwall and Gateway electrical integration
- MCI placement per Tesla PVRSS / NEC 690.12
- Cover, site, roof, electrical and line diagrams
- Design tables, placards and permit-ready sets
